The Artist
"In spite of everything I shall rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing."
-Vincent Van Gogh
Art can be a tough pursuit. There is much vexation that comes along with the process, and yet, it is a part of us. We can't deny the creativity that consumes us.
I began to think of art more seriously when I was a young teenager. Since then it has become a passion. The beauty in the world surrounds me, and I see every detail. I often see what is unseen. Over the years I have come to understand that this is what it is to live life as an artist.
When it comes to art, I am considered a Multipotentialite. I am talented in many areas when it comes to the arts. My main areas of focus are drawing, painting and graphic design. Secondary areas of focus are in writing, photography and jewelry making, with many other tertiary interests. Having the ability to focus on many different areas in the world of art allows me to correlate many of the individual aspects from one area into another, enabling me to incorporate different elements into one piece of work.
College has given me more tools to use in the art world than I ever imagined. Pursuing an Associate of Arts brought me in contact with teachers who have been artists for a very long time and granted me access to views of art that I would never have sought on my own. I continue to explore the different aspects and look forward to what other new things will be made available to me.
Through the many years, there has been one thing that I have learned that has always stayed with me: Being an artist isn't something you become. It is something you are. Once you know who or what you are, all that is left is to just be.
